Simon qualified from University College, London in 1981, where he shared his year's prize for operative technique. He studied and worked as a postgraduate dentist in Sussex before he opened his own practice there in 1986. He continued to lecture newly qualified dentists as a dental practice trainer and active member of the British Dental Association before moving to Germany in 1991 to research the high technical level of German dentistry.
His discoveries there led to the development of a busy general and orthodontic clinic and laboratory specialising in complex mouth reconstructions, orthodontics and dental implant work. Simon continued to train graduate dentists, hygienists and dental nurses in his German practice alongside presenting lectures to colleagues throughout the country on specialist dental topics and to parents and teachers on dental health.
Simon is married with two teenage daughters and their education brought him back to the UK in 2004. Outside dentistry he's actively involved in guiding the girls and other young athletes in their sporting ambitions and is a recognised dentist of the British Olympic Association's passport scheme.
