Veneers are an excellent cosmetic solution for patients wishing to enhance their smile, giving a completely new look to stained, chipped, discoloured, unevenly spaced or even slightly misaligned teeth.
Veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of the teeth giving a great looking smile in only one or two simple appointments.
Your dentist will be able to evaluate your specific situation, listen to the changes you have in mind and help you visualise your end result using photos of similar cases and a computer enhancement programme or a mock up on a model of your own teeth prior to performing your treatment.
Traditionally, Veneers require at least 2 visits to the surgery.
Carry out some minor contouring of the tooth—just enough to prevent the veneer making the tooth look or feel bulky. For this reason, it may not be necessary for your dentist to numb the tooth.
Use a putty-like material to make a mould of your mouth (an impression). So that the dental technician knows exactly the shape and size of veneer to make for you.
On your next visit, the veneer will be tried in to check that the fit and aesthetics are satisfactory and then bonded into place.
However, you now have a choice - The Cerec 3D gives you your new smile in only 1 visit!
Your tooth preparation is carried out as with a traditional veneer and the colour is matched to your surrounding teeth using a shade guide. A reflective powder is then applied to the tooth for scanning.
An image of your tooth from a 3D camera is sent to a milling machine accurate to 25 microns - more accurate than any laboratory. This is accomplished using Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture. The milling machine uses diamond coated instruments to reproduce the design of your new veneer. After polishing, your new veneer fits precisely. A curing light hardens the bonding material, cementing the veneer into place.
